Last night was sushi night, Jerry doesn't like sushi so he didn't participate. My friend that I met through my crochet group, and her friend, and myself got together to make sushi. This is the second time that we have done this, according to the note of the first friend it has been almost a year since the last time we had gotten together. A whole year! It didn't seem that long ago.
First I have to go pick up V (the friend from crochet), I have to show the yarn I picked up with my sister in Portland (she absolutely loved it!), show her the progress I have made on an afghan that she helped me find the yarn for, and the progress I have made on the Sarafina poncho that I had started while in Portland (I had a very productive visit with my Sis). Then we gather things together to take over to M's house, this is where we are doing the sushi this time. We get the van loaded and we're off!
We finally reach M's house, it's about a 45 minute drive by freeway. She has a beautiful home. We unload the goodies from the van, sit and get the grocery list made. We then go to the Asian market, that in itself is an experience. If you ever have the chance to go to an Asian market, do so. Most of the labels are in Chinese, Japanese, or what ever the type of people the market is for, there are a few labels with English on them. You can tell if you are in the section that sells soy sauce and stuff because there will be at least one brand with English on the label, the others are not, because of the color of the liquid in the bottles you can tell that it is at least some type of soy sauce or maybe taryaki sauce. The chip isle is easy too, the picture on the packaging is a great help. The sweets are even easier, you can see some of the goodies through the packaging, I got myself something called Pocky. It is really good, it is a thin cookie stick dipped in chocolate. It is really good. There are tanks of different kinds of live fish that they sell, not just a tank for lobster, one had live eel, another had catfish, I didn't look in all of them, there was so much to see. There was even a in store lunch bar, where M bought some roasted duck, they even cut it up. We got everything that we needed, and headed back to M's house.
We made rice, which had to cool first, then seasoned, veggies were cut, fish was cut, wasabi was made. Then the fun began. Discussions on how much rice should be put on the Noori proceeded through the making of them, what should be put on each roll, and how to roll them. We made eight rolls, we had about four left to split between us. along with the rolls we had some other goodies that I can't remember the names of. I will have to have V send me the names of these goodies again. (Shumai, is one, these were very good.)
The food was great and the company was even better.
Live fully...
